Award Accolades for One Saint Stephens

Since its completion at the start of the year, One Saint Stephens has been honoured by industry awards acknowledging both its design and delivery.

Most recently, One Saint Stephens became the first property in Oceania to gain the globally recognised WELL Residence certification presented by the International WELL Building Institute. This is the only global certification for healthier homes which acknowledges the adoption of strategies to improve air and water quality, healthier eating habits, activity and movement, lighting and sleep, accessibility, productivity and energy, and the use of safer building materials.

Earlier this year, One Saint Stephens was awarded Excellence Best in Category Multi-Unit Residential Property, at the highly regarded Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards.

This followed success at the Auckland Architecture Awards held by Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects, where One Saint Stephens was awarded a Housing – Multi Unit Award.

The team behind One Saint Stephens are very proud of these awards, and more information on each can be found below.

International WELL Building Institute;

WELL Residence Seal

One Saint Stephens has been acknowledged as leading the industry in the area of health and well-being in a residential context by being the first residential building in Oceania to receive the WELL Residence seal.

WELL was developed by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) who are the authority for transforming health and well-being in buildings, organisations and communities with their people-first approach.

Ways in which One Saint Stephens met the WELL Residence criteria included initiatives such as provisioning for EV charging, installing bike parks, and exceeding building standards to ensure a reduction in moisture impacts, noise reduction in floor and ceiling construction, supporting fundamental thermal comfort, controllable lighting and plentiful glazing, through to emergency response support and facilitating digital connectivity through the use of a residents app. It was also acknowledged for its location which is close to walking and biking opportunities, as well as public transport links.

Property Industry Awards;

Excellence Best in Category

One Saint Stephens was the winner of the Hawkins Multi Unit Residential Property Award category at New Zealand’s largest industry awards – the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards.

Taking out the top prize in this category, representatives from Experiences by Coopers, Countrywide Properties and Clearwater Construction accepted the award and acknowledged the wider team responsible to delivering the project.

Further information on the prestigious award can be found here.

Chief Judge for the awards, Andy Evans, said;

“The team behind One Saint Stephens is elite, and you can see the experience and knowledge that each poured into the site.

With One Saint Stephens, we witness their third and most ambitious collaboration. Their previous developments, Outlook Mission Bay and Elm Remuera were already benchmarks of design excellence and lifestyle. This latest project goes even further. It reflects a deep understanding of a discerning buyer’s desire: not just to live well, but to live exceptionally,” said Evans.

NZIA Local Architecture Awards;

Housing – Multi-Unit category

MAP+ Architects was awarded for their architectural design of One Saint Stephens at an event held right next door at the Holy Trinity Cathedral back in May.

One Saint Stephens won the NZ Institute of Architecture (NZIA) Local Architecture Awards in the Housing – Multi-Unit category (Auckland). Local Architecture Awards honour the best new architecture in each of the NZIA’s eight regional branches. Winners at the local level will then be considered for further honours at a national level.

The award citation noted;

This was a challenging context in which to insert a building of this scale. Bounded on one side by an iconic cathedral and situated on a prominent ridge with views to the Auckland War Memorial Museum in one direction and the Waitematā Harbour in the other, One Saint Stephens employs recessed corner verandas to reduce its bulk and activate its street presence. Glazed vertical elements further diminish the building’s scale while delivering full-height panoramic views to the apartments’ occupants. Material selections imbue the building with a sense of permanence and timelessness.

We congratulate MAP+ Architects. It was a pleasure to have collaborated so closely with them throughout the project, and we look forward to the National Awards later this year, which will be preceded by a nationwide jury tour of the regional winners’ projects.
