The commencement of ground works was celebrated with a ‘Golden Photo Opportunity’. Gold has long been associated with luxury, and it was with a golden shovel that developers Mike Sullivan and Martin Cooper marked the opening dig for One Saint Stephens.

There has been a lot of meticulous planning to get to this point and, with the construction team now firmly ensconced on site, the physical groundwork and implementation of the first stages of that planning are in full swing.

In fact, the highest residential site in Parnell has seen great progress in the past month with the move from enabling works to full construction activity.

As construction progresses to completion there will be many milestones worthy of celebrating – this is just the beginning.

A site scrape was undertaken in July and the team trucked in aggregate to establish a compacted hardstand for the piling rig and crane which are now hard at work on the site.

Before the large piling rig could get underway boring holes into the earth, a small driven pile wall was required to be constructed along St Stephens Avenue and around the protected Dragon Tree. You can see the team enjoying some winter sunshine as they get stuck into their work below.

30-tonne piling rig

Once the retaining wall was constructed, the 30-tonne piling rig got underway boring deep holes for the piles that make up the perimeter of the basement levels. Working in tandem with the green crawler crane, the first pile shafts now reside deep into the earth on the site. The scale of the piles is impressive as they show their full length while being lifted into position.
